The Main Chassis is the system. In the present version of Server Administrator, all Main Chassis using Server Administrator are servers. The Main Chassis in this simple system would be numbered chassis 1. All of the components of the system called scmconly1 are components of the Main Chassis: fans, BIOS, processors, and power supplies. The system is a container object for the main system chassis, software, and storage objects. For more information on the Main System Chassis, see Main System Chassis.

Example 2

Host name: mc2nas: A slightly more complex system with a Main Chassis and two network attached storage devices. This system has three chassis in all. The Main Chassis is numbered chassis 1, and the two storage devices are numbered chassis 2 and chassis 3, respectively. Server Administrator tracks components of this system according to the chassis that they belong to. Chassis 1, the Main Chassis, would have server components, and chassis 2 and 3 have storage device components. Currently, Server Administrator supports a system with up to 16 storage devices attached. For more information on network attached storage devices attached to the Main System Chassis, see External Chassis Information.

Example 3

Host name: mc6multi: A modular system containing up to six independent server modules within one master container or chassis. Each server module can be deployed, operated, and managed independently. Within the multisystem chassis, each server module has its own unique service tag, asset tag, and slot. For more information on modular systems, see server modules.
