<h4>Power Supply</h4>

<p>The power supply is an electrical system that converts AC current from the
wall&nbsp;outlet into the&nbsp;DC currents required by the system components.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Systems can be designed with redundant power supplies to prevent system shutdown due to
power supply failure. When extra power supplies are present in a system, being able to see
that one or two power supplies have failed enables administrators to replace power
supplies and restore redundancy before the last power supply failure causes the entire
system to fail.&nbsp;</p>

<h4>Power Supply Redundancy</h4>

<p><span class="notes"><b><img border="0" src="note.gif" width="17" height="17"> NOTE</b>:</span>
The fields listed on this page cover possible configurations.&nbsp;Some fields may not be
present on your system.</p>

    <td class="data-area-canvas" vAlign="top" align="left"><b>Redundancy Status</b> can be <em>Full</em>
    or <em>Lost</em>. Currently, all systems have <i>n</i>+1 power supplies, where <i>n</i> is
    the number of power supplies that are required for the system to work under fully loaded
    and stress conditions. If the number of power supplies in a system that is required for
    full redundancy is three: <p><b>Redundancy Status</b> is <em>Full</em> when three power
    supplies are working.</p>
    <p><b>Redundancy Status</b> is <em>Lost</em> with a status of <i>Noncritical</i> when two
    power supplies are working.</p>
    <p><b>Redundancy Status</b> is <em>Lost</em> with a status of <i>Critical</i> when only
    one power supply is working.</p>
    <p>Full redundancy is defined by system specification. Lost redundancy means that there
    are no backup power supplies available to take over for the minimum number required, but
    at least one power supply is working.&nbsp;</td>

    required for full redundancy</strong></td>
    <td class="data-area-canvas" vAlign="top" align="left">Your system has a number of power
    supplies defined for full redundancy. Currently, all systems have <i>n</i>+1 power

    src="ok.gif" width="15"> ) indicates that a component is healthy (OK). A yellow triangle
    containing an exclamation point ( <img height="15" src="non-crit.gif" width="18"> )
    indicates that a component has a warning (noncritical) condition and requires prompt
    attention. A red X ( <img height="15" src="critical.gif" width="15"> ) indicates that a
    component has a critical/failure condition and requires immediate attention. A blank space
    (&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; ) indicates that a component's health status is unknown.</td>
